I believe the wind has a story to tell, And sometimes I feel like the wind; For I am only a rustling in the trees, A whisper you never noticed in the day. If I were to blow my breeze loud enough, I’d just become a hurricane, And the song of a hurricane doesn’t resound— It devastates your home; It ravages your town. I am the wind. One day I'll become a hurricane, Crying out for meaning, Breaking for the tremor In your voice. I am the wind. I promised thunder when you asked for rain I gave lightning when darkness came But it was gone - 4 seconds I can't see the water; I ignore the clouds, Stirring up dust, Hoping you'll Hear me out. Your smile, a swinging pendulum, Beneath a grandfather clock, Counting the whole millennium. You can't be in the flock— Your feathers, like a golden calf, In an army of the dead Waiting to dance --- I'm a tree stripped by rain's acid bite; (In the kitchen on the floor) Bark peeled, leaves in flight— Gray, but roots push wide, (I'm losing my religion for you) Sprouting strong on every side. So I lean my naked branches, (Never thought I'd be this low) Reaching toward an endless sky, In hopes a gentle gust will lift And let my spirit fly. (Butterflies fly when you leave town) Knowing this tree may weaken, Sway, and shiver; (I hope you come around) But grounding roots will hold steady Through each storm forever. (I hope you come around) --- Instead, I'll just survive; (I suppose I always knew) Wake up and realize (Despite how we danced and played,) I'm supposed to be fine. Even when I am the wingless dragonfly (I suppose I always knew) My hands burn bright red, (I was the rotting roots in a forest of pine) Blistered from grasping your soul (And its not okay, I am not fine) That lay on the empty side of my bed, Where you refused to grow old. (An ashen glow of the star who didn't survive) I suppose I always knew, That nothing here ever grew But I do not regret a moment passing Where I was yours and made you happy— (My thoughts betray me) In those precious snippets of laughing. So while I’m sad, (I suppose I always knew) With a kiss and tumble in dark memory, (I'll wake up and realize) I’ll always remind you where you aren't, Even if you never needed me to. I've been straying too far, In case One day You do. So, suffer this one last time: I'll never forget you.
