Under the Everfree

[Intro] [Clean guitar, tense slow build] [Verse 1] I barely slept after midnight. Had that drawing stuck in my head. Seven points beneath the faded ink, one scratched until it bled. By sunrise I'd packed my saddlebags, maps and notes beneath my wing. Rainbow said, "You're not going alone." Applejack said the same darn thing. So we followed that broken pattern where the oldest records lead, past the roads and past the fences, to the edge of the Everfree. [Pre-Chorus] I've walked these woods before, but something's different today. Like the trees know where we're going and they're leaning out the way. [Chorus] Under the Everfree, under roots and ruined stone, there's a piece of our history somepony wanted left alone. Every hoofstep pulls us deeper. Every answer disappears. Under the Everfree, something's waited all these years. [Verse 2] The old castle hasn't changed much. Still cold stone and empty halls. Rainbow joked about the last time something chased us through these walls. Applejack found marks behind the ivy, little stars cut in a frame. Six were worn from years of weather. The seventh had no name. There was nothing on my old maps. Nothing written in the stacks. Just a staircase beneath the rubble that kept going down through black. [Pre-Chorus] Rainbow stopped making jokes. Applejack stayed close behind. And I started getting that feeling you get when the facts don't align. [Chorus] Under the Everfree, under roots and ruined stone, there's a piece of our history somepony wanted left alone. Every hoofstep pulls us deeper. Every answer disappears. Under the Everfree, something's waited all these years. [Instrumental Descent] [Heavy guitars, building tension] [Verse 3] At the bottom stood a doorway, older than the castle above. No royal crest, no sun or moon, no words for friendship or love. Just seven circles carved around it, joined together in the stone. Six were clean enough to recognize. One was cut down to the bone. Applejack whispered, "Twilight..." Rainbow didn't say a word. I put one hoof against the doorway. And something underneath us stirred. [Bridge] [Sparse, ominous] The stone gave way without a sound. Dust rolled through the air. One... Two... Three... Four... Five... Six... Seven pedestals were there. Honesty. Kindness. Laughter. Generosity. Loyalty. Magic. And one more place beside them with its symbol torn away. Then Rainbow found the writing. I wish she hadn't read it. [Heavy pause] "Seven make Harmony whole." [Instrumental Rise] [Harmony motif becomes dissonant] [Final Chorus] Under the Everfree, under everything we know, somepony buried part of Harmony where they thought it wouldn't show. This wasn't lost to time. This wasn't chance or fear. Somepony carved the truth away and left the silence here. Under the Everfree, I finally understand— we didn't find a missing legend. We found where somepony tried to bury it by hoof. [Outro] [Low clean guitar, distant rumble] Seven pedestals. Six names. One scar. And somewhere in the darkness... four notes answer back.
