by: Unknown date: 1034 DR source: Bury Elminster Deep In forests deep, the elves drew blades, As Aryvandaar’s crown did call. The Illythiir burned the Everglades, And kingdoms vast began to fall. From Nether skies, the shadows grew, Ambition turned to airship strewn. Karsus' folly, magic flew, And sundered life to nether ruin. The halls of Delzoun shone so bright, As axes struck the orcish band. Their foes besieged through endless night, But dwarven kin would always stand. [Chorus] The time for threats is past, And so the lords do shout. War is come at last, Now all the swords come out. In Tethyr’s plains, the Shoon marched on, Their tyrant’s will a searing flame. A thousand deaths before the dawn, Yet none could speak the victor’s name. The skies of Calim brimmed with fire, Djinn and efreet raged supreme. A thousand years of wrath and ire, As mortals fled their burning dream. Impiltur’s shores saw raiders bold, Their ships bringing cruel disgrace. The blades they clashed for gems and gold, And left behind a broken place. [Chorus] The time for threats is past, And so the lords do shout. War is come at last, Now all the swords come out. And though the battles fade away, Their echoes linger in the lore. The blood we spill still shapes the day, And bids us to the swords once more.
