I BLEED BLUE: She wears red. She bleeds blue.

Daddy cheered for Cougar blue, Aggie blue was welcome too; But if they played each other one day— It was GO COUGARS! all the way. I thought that made good sense back then, Cheering for Utah schools would always do But if you're asking me to choose— I bleed blue... go B. Y. U.! My college days started at Utah State, Old Farm and college life were great; A tap-dance class, good grades came too, What everyone expected me to do. But somewhere in that freshman spring, I got the urge for something new; One talk with Mama changed my road— Off toward Washington D.C. I flew. Five years passed before school called again, I'd worked and served and seen the world; The Tanner Building welcomed me, A new season with B. Y. U unfurled. I took my classes while I worked, A few each semester, all was good, Not knowing then those credits saved A dream I'd finish when I could. I bleed B. Y. U blue— There's Aggie blue inside me too; But if you make me choose a side, You'll find a Cougar through and through. Some roads are straight, some circle back, Mine took a turn or twenty-two; But every road that taught me something Led me home to Cougar blue. Four kids later, on my own, I went back to finish what I'd begun; Family Life became my field— I lived the lessons, every one. Back to Utah State for math— The subject I had learned to dread; With Thomas studying next to me, Exponents filled his little head! He's been a math whiz ever since, I'm taking credit—every bit! I studied hard, he studied too... You're welcome, Thomas—I did it! Korean filled another need, Two decades since my mission days; Surrounded by newly returned missionaries Speaking it in newer ways. My teacher wondered what remained After all those years away— But when that spoken test was finished, I smiled and earned my A. It wasn't four neat college years, A simple path from start to end; It wound through work and motherhood, Through roads I never could have planned. But education isn't only What a transcript says you knew— It's every time you keep on learning, Every time you follow through. I bleed B. Y. U blue— There's Aggie blue inside me too; But if you make me choose a side, You'll find a Cougar through and through. Some roads are straight, some circle back, Mine took a turn or twenty-two; But every road that taught me something Led me home to Cougar blue. Now when it comes to Utah red, There's really nothing to discuss— I'll cheer for blue through thick and thin; That rivalry is serious stuff! But dress me in a power suit, And somehow all the rules undo— I may look fabulous in red... But underneath, I still bleed blue. I bleed B. Y. U blue— And Rick bleeds right there with me too; Football, hoops and volleyball, If Cougars play, we'll watch it all. We'll cheer the Aggies when we can, Enjoy their victories now and then; But when Aggie blue meets Cougar blue, We're Cougars to the very end! My road through school was long and winding, But every mile brought something new; I'm an Aggie friend forever— But I'm a Cougar through and through. So let me wear my power red, One thing will still be true: She may wear red. But she bleeds Cougar blue.
