I walked towards home… in disillusion My heart and mind just mass confusion The tears would come I had no doubt As fear and sorrow began to sprout My thoughts I couldn’t reconcile With feelings which now seemed so hostile What could I do with what I’d seen His words were echoes, what did they mean [chorus] For years I followed, the man…the way I hung upon the words he’d say He spoke of love, of life …. and peace A kingdom that would never cease But now it’s gone like wind swept dust My treasure seems to have turned to rust I saw him flogged..the flesh…the blood It poured out like a crimson flood They punched his face, he took the blows His swollen eyes and broken nose The scourging, shame and nakedness Their laughter cruel I must confess How could it be that he would die The Son of God they’d crucify When all he did was heal and teach Forgive our sins and Kingdom preach [chorus] For years I followed, the man…the way I hung upon the words he’d say He spoke of love, of life …. and peace A kingdom that would never cease The dead he had raised, he gave life anew He spoke of rebirth for the chosen, the few So why did he die? This prophet…the savior So sinless a man in word and behavior My emotions were like the winds of a storm I prayed that Yahweh my heart would transform To be like that man, who hung on the cross Who counted the world as nothing but loss [chorus] For years I followed, the man…the way I hung upon the words he’d say He spoke of love, of life …. and peace A kingdom that would never cease [instrumental] A dude then appeared, he walked by my side He asked what was wrong and why I had cried I couldn’t believe … how could he not know That Jesus had died while the Pharisees crowed I had him come eat at my home as we spoke A fire was kindled and my heart was awoke The bread and the wine he blessed with his word My breathing grew heavy. My eyes became blurred [chorus] For years I followed, the man…the way I hung upon the words he’d say He spoke of love, of life …. and peace A kingdom that would never cease The Word…he showed, that the Christ had to die The scriptures were Truth and of him prophesied He’d risen again….Jesus ate at my home My savior had blessed me again with Shalom [chorus] For years I followed, the man…the way I hung upon the words he’d say Shalom he spoke, he gave me peace His kingdom I know will never cease ….Never cease
