# Last Boat Home ### Verse 1 Charlie sits by the window Watching the harbor lights Says he's been waiting for someone Every Friday night He keeps a coat on the next chair And orders another round Says, "She might walk through that doorway" But never turns around ### Chorus There's always a last boat home One more chance before you go Some are leaving, some are staying Some don't even know There's always a last boat home Waiting underneath the light You can leave it all behind you Or stay another night ### Verse 2 Jenny works by the water She's closing up the place Twenty years behind that counter And every name has changed She says she's leaving tomorrow She's said it all before Then folds her apron slowly And looks out toward the shore ### Chorus There's always a last boat home One more chance before you go Some are leaving, some are staying Some don't even know There's always a last boat home Waiting underneath the light You can leave it all behind you Or stay another night ### Piano Interlude ### Verse 3 Old Jack comes in at midnight And takes his usual chair He doesn't talk about his children But their pictures still are there He says, "Son, the years are funny You think you've got your time Then one day you're at the station Watching everybody ride" ### Bridge Outside the bell is ringing The captain calls once more Someone laughs behind me Someone's running for the door And for a moment we're all quiet Like everybody knows There's always something waiting And something you let go ### Final Chorus There's always a last boat home One more chance before you go Some are leaving, some are staying Some don't even know There's always a last boat home Waiting underneath the light You can leave it all behind you Or stay another night ### Outro Charlie stays beside the window Jenny turns out every light And somewhere on the water The last boat sails tonight
