[Intro – eerie guitar skanks, distant paint splatter, heavy bass rumble] Man, I could really use some inspiration my paintings aren't sellin'... Gotta find a way out of this slump, gotta climb out of this hole I fell in. [Verse 1] Found an old Poké Ball buried under dust and trash, put it in my pack before I cracked it open. Got home, released the beast with a flash, I could really use a break so a Legendary is what I'm hopin'. As the glare left my eyes I could finally see the creature that would be my prize. Smeargle, ironic surprise, not a mighty Pokémon and kinda small in size. It was quiet, timid, and had old misery in its gaze. Must have lived through some hell in previous days. Don't worry buddy you're in good hands with me, here you're free to be. First night, nothin' strange...second night, nothin' new...third was something different entirely. Brand-new portrait on my wall framed, a vibrant painting in every shade of red. Shading is flawless, eyes so vivid they felt alive, but it wasn't pride I felt but a sense of dread instead. "Smeargle, who is this man?" I asked my mysterious new friend. It just stood there, with a cold blank stare...the corners of its lips began to bend. [Pre-Chorus] Who are you? Why are you here? Why's your blood-red portrait bringin' me fear? Then I saw your face on TV, murdered and drained, reality now became so clear... [Chorus] CRIMSON CANVAS...painted in the dead of night, every brushstroke tells a story, every portrait claims a soul... CRIMSON CANVAS...drippin' red within the frame...faces I never knew till the reports told of lives you stole... CRIMSON CANVAS...what do I do, who will believe my claims...everyone will assume that I've lost my mind... CRIMSON CANVAS...I should have left that ball behind...locked inside, imprisoned, and forever confined... [Verse 2] Every morning came another death captured in a bloody frame...news gave each a name. All stared through me all the same...the more victims he claimed the more haunting they all became. The ball refused to seal it away...ancient balls locks long ago decayed... Every sunrise brought another face, Another canvas Smeargle displayed... Then another and another too then one night I woke to Smeargle not just watching me but glaring through... That morning was the first in which the number of portraits hadn't grew...the reason why I think I knew... I hadn't seen Smeargle as the day went by...minutes turned to hours the time began to fly. As I lay down to sleep that night little did I know that I was the next portrait the next guy to die. [Reggae Breakdown] No, no, no...this can't be real...no, no, no...what have I done? Little Smeargle tail waggin' as it spread the red before the rising sun. [Heavy Build] I never asked for this...I never wanted blood...I never wanted any part of this... No all I see is red...in my head...I think I'm dead...forever lost in a scarlet abyss. [Bridge – whispered vocals over bass] One final canvas...covered by a ragged sheet... One final canvas...made the collection complete... I wish I never knew at all...I wish I never grabbed that ball... Smeargle trapped me...trapped my soul...just another portrait on the wall. [Final Chorus] CRIMSON CANVAS...now my portrait holds that crimson face in pain... CRIMSON CANVAS...my body hung in the attic where the paint could drain... CRIMSON CANVAS...my soul trapped within this frame... CRIMSON CANVAS...just another portrait on the wall I became... [Outro – heavy reggae groove collapsing into static] Another masterpiece... Crimson... Canvas... On the wall... Paintbrush dragging... Locked itself back in it's ball... Waitin' for the next to answer it's call...
