Part II β The Living Archive
V6-MINI
What if nature could remember? Not metaphorically. What if the tree outside your childhood home has retained the precise pressure of your hand against its bark? What if the wind knows which names you whispered into itβ and which names you kept? What if the soil remembers every body it has been given? The tree has been recording us in rings. The river has been carrying us in silt. The cat has been watching the photograph of the moon. And the photograph has been keeping a record of everyone who looked at it and wished to be elsewhere. Memory isn't the opposite of forgetting. Memory is what forgetting leaves behind.
