We Came for One Bottle One

[Intro — whisper, felt piano only] Show’s over. Lights are off out front. You’re still here. Good. [Verse 1 — whisper, felt piano only] Anyone can buy the bottle Take it home, pull the cork alone Read the back label for company Pour a glass for no one [Verse 2 — still quiet, a low string enters] But the glasses here are stacked And the door is on the latch We built the playlist, nobody planned it Somewhere between bottle two and bad ideas And nobody’s checking the time [Pre-Chorus — [ow choir hum, building] Out there they sell it by the bottle Back here we know you by your name [Chorus — crescendo, full strings, choir] We came for one bottle And somehow stole the moon You’ve got the pass, you’re through the door This is where the real ones pour [Verse 3 — solo cello and voice, restrained There were hands in the rows at dawn There was rain that came too late There was patience in the barrel While the world outside couldn’t wait Every bottle has a story And every story needs a room [The turn — a cappella — voice alone, silence] The wine gets you to the door. What’s behind it, you can’t buy. [Final Chorus — key change up, full choir, biggest] We came for one bottle And somehow stole the moon You’ve got the pass, you’re through the door This is where the real ones pour You came for one bottle You stayed for the room You’ve got the pass, you’re through the door This is where the real ones pour [Outro — solo piano, whisper] If it all makes sense tomorrow, we did it wrong.
