White Blades

[Intro] Laces cross the tongue of the boot White leather waiting by the door [Verse 1] You left the guards on both blades So the floor would keep its marks I held the box against my hip And counted every spark The hallway narrowed into wood The kitchen clock ran slow You said, "Just take one careful step" As if I didn't know [Pre-Chorus] The ice is somewhere past this room Past dust and taped-up seams I wear the winter on my feet Before I reach the dream [Chorus] I will move where you can't follow I will turn without a sound Every edge can cut a circle Every fall can teach the ground If you loosen both your hands now I might find the way alone White blades waiting in the doorway Carry me back home [Verse 2] The laces bite above my ankles The old floor gives a creak A photograph beneath the shelf Has summer in its cheeks You made a weapon out of wonder I made shelter out of fear Now the distance between us Fits inside a single year [Pre-Chorus] The ice is somewhere past this room Past dust and taped-up seams I wear the winter on my feet Before I reach the dream [Chorus] I will move where you can't follow I will turn without a sound Every edge can cut a circle Every fall can teach the ground If you loosen both your hands now I might find the way alone White blades waiting in the doorway Carry me back home [Bridge] Don't call it leaving I'm learning the weight Of a body in motion That refuses to wait The first step is crooked The second is mine I draw one bright question Across the old line [Final Chorus] I will move where you can't follow I will turn and not look down Every edge can cut a circle Every fall can teach the ground If you loosen both your hands now I can find the way alone White blades waiting in the doorway Carry me back home [Outro] Laces cross the tongue of the boot The door gives way I go
