A Thousand Generations

A Thousand Generations I’m calling on you, mothers I’m calling on you, fathers Live the love of Jesus Before your daughters and your sons Let them see you trust Him Let them hear you praise Him Let them know his mercy By the mercy you have shown To a thousand generations A thousand generations May the faith we live before them Be the faith we call our own So our children tell their children Of the wonders he has done Till their children’s children’s children Know him as the faithful one To a thousand generations Let them see you praying When you do not know the answer Let them see you standing When you're weak, that he is strong Let them see forgiveness Let them watch you love each other When love is not so easy When the road is hard and long To a thousand generations A thousand generations May the faith we live before them Be the faith we call our own So our children tell their children Of the wonders he has done Till their children’s children’s children Know him as the faithful one To a thousand generations We may never see the branches Growing from the seeds we sow We may never know their names Or the places they will go But the God who keeps his promise Will be faithful when we’re gone So they tell another generation And the song will carry on To a thousand generations A thousand generations May the faith we live before them Be the faith we call our own So our children tell their children Of the wonders he has done Till their children’s children’s children Know him as the faithful one To a thousand generations Let the faith they come to know Be the faith they see in us Let the faith they make their own Be the faith that we have shown To a thousand generations A thousand generations Let the song of faith go on To a thousand generations
