(Verse 1) I was walkin’ down a dusty road at the edge of town one day Sun was hangin’ lazy, didn’t have much to say When I saw a little donkey standin’ in the shade With a sideways grin and a shuffle in his gait (Chorus) He was a wonky donkey, kinda honky-tonky One-eyed, sunburned, slightly feelin’ funky Long-eared, off-key, brayin’ kinda clunky But I swear that was the finest wonky donkey (Verse 2) Well I took a closer look and I had to laugh out loud He winked his only good eye like he was mighty proud Had a hitch in his step like a broken-down tune Like a back porch band playin’ half a beat too soon (Chorus) He was a wonky donkey, lanky cranky Three-legged rhythm, walkin’ kinda janky Dusty, rusty, smellin’ a little skunky Still the king of the road, that wonky donkey (Verse 3) He tried to sing a song but it came out wrong Like a radio station that don’t tune in strong But the more he sang, the more I stayed There was somethin’ ’bout the joy in the noise he made (Chorus) He was a wonky donkey, plinky-plonky Half-time shuffle, never quite in harmony Crooked little tail swingin’ wild and spunky Lord, I loved that ragged wonky donkey (Bridge) Now he ain’t no racehorse, ain’t built for speed But he’s got more soul than you’ll ever need Yeah, the world might laugh, call him odd or wrong But he’s got a better heart than a perfect song (Verse 4) So I sat right down in the dirt that day Listened to that donkey bray his blues away And I thought to myself as the sun sank low That the best things in life lean a little off slow (Final Chorus) He was a wonky donkey, funky spunky Bent but smilin’, never feelin’ junky One-of-a-kind in a world so chunky Yeah, I found my friend in that wonky donkey
