THE KOTEK TWO-STEP Round and Round, Another Round!

V6

[Intro — Bouncy piano, jazzy trumpets, glasses clinking] Ladies and gentlemen, grab your seats! We've got a debate with dancing feet! The questions are ready, the band is too, Let's see what Tina's gonna do! (Backing singers: "One, two, three... CHEERS!") [Verse 1 — The First Question] The moderator asked a question, Simple as could be, "Who's gonna pay the bill, And where's the money gonna be?" Tina smiled and started talking, About the workers and their rights, But the question was about the dollars, And who's paying for the fight! The band struck up a little tune, The answer took a trip, Somebody shouted from the back, "EVERYBODY TAKE A SIP!" [Pre-Chorus — Playful echoing harmonies] Step to the left! (To the left!) Slide to the right! (To the right!) Dance around the question, And toast another night! [Chorus — Big, bouncy, catchy] Do the Kotek two-step! (Two-step! Two-step!) Round and round the floor! The moderator asks again, We're drinking one sip more! Spin to the left! (WHEE!) Shuffle to the right! (HEY!) Dance around the dollars Till they're dancing out of sight! She says "Trump!" (CLINK, CLINK, CLINK!) Another question? (WINK, WINK, WINK!) Raise your glass, take a sip, Watch that question do a flip! [Verse 2 — The Union Waltz] "I'm pro-union, I'm pro-worker!" Tina proudly did declare, The moderator said, "That's lovely, But how's the funding gonna fare?" "What about the school districts? What about the public purse?" Tina danced another circle, While the band played one more verse! "It's not an either-or!" she answered, And the trumpets gave a blast, The moderator scratched her head, "Could you answer what I asked?" (Backing singers: "SIP! SIP! SIP!") [Chorus — With laughter and clinking glasses] Do the Kotek two-step! (Two-step! Two-step!) Round and round the floor! The moderator asks again, We're drinking one sip more! She says "Trump!" (CLINK, CLINK, CLINK!) She changes subjects! (WINK, WINK, WINK!) One step forward, two steps back, Watch that question jump the track! [Verse 3 — The Taxpayer Tango] There's a bill for unemployment, There's a budget to explain, The teachers need their groceries, And the schools have bills the same! Who's responsible for paying? How's the money gonna flow? The question's standing patiently, But the answer's on the go! Somebody orders one more round, The piano starts to play, The moderator tries again, But the answer slips away! [Bridge — The Debate Drinking Game, spoken and sung] (Music stops. A single piano note.) Moderator: "Governor, who pays the bill?" Singer: "Ooooh, here comes the shuffle!" (Trumpet: Wah-wah!) Moderator: "And what about the schools?" Backing singers: "We're waiting!" Singer: "And now, for our favorite part..." (Dramatic drumroll) Singer, imitating a debate interruption: "Well, Donald TRUMP—" EVERYBODY: "CHEEEEEERS!" (CLINK! CLINK! CLINK!) Moderator: "Governor, that wasn't the question!" Backing singers: "THAT WASN'T THE QUESTION!" (Full band kicks back in) [Verse 4 — The Never-Ending Spin] She's got a step for every question, She's got a turn for every doubt, She's got a speech for every subject, But the numbers keep slipping out! A two-step here, a sidestep there, A little shuffle everywhere, The band is tired, the drinks are gone, But Tina's dancing right along! [Final Chorus — Full-band party finale] Do the Kotek two-step! (Two-step! Two-step!) Round and round we go! Ask her where the money comes from, Watch those dancing shoes go! Spin to the left! (WHEE!) Shuffle to the right! (HEY!) Raise your glasses one more time, We're dancing through the night! She says "Trump!" (CLINK, CLINK, CLINK!) Where's the answer? (THINK, THINK, THINK!) The band goes wild, the trumpets blow, The moderator says, "Before you go..." [Finale — Music suddenly stops] Moderator: "Governor, could we PLEASE get an answer?" (Long silence) Singer: "Well... I don't think it's an either-or conversation." (Trumpet: WAH-WAH-WAAAAH!) Backing singers: "THAT WASN'T THE QUESTION!" [Outro — Mischievous spoken female vocal] "Well, folks, the debate is over..." (Pause) "The glasses are empty..." (Pause) "And we're STILL waiting for an answer!" (One final glass clink) "CHEERS!" (Band ends with a ridiculous trumpet flourish.)
