Friday night again, she grabs her purse. Says she’s going out—"it could be worse." “Mommy’s worked so hard this week…” So I heat my pizza up and watch TV. The house gets quiet, but not for long, I hear them laugh, then play a song. Sam says, “Headphones, baby girl.” Then upstairs starts to rock my world— (Chorus – hook) Thump thump thump—it’s the prayer drum beat. Mommy’s making noises from under the sheets. I think they’re praying, or maybe not… But the bed keeps dancing in the same damn spot. Thump thump thump—it shakes the floor, I hold my bear and stare at the door. If love means loud… then I’m confused. I guess that’s just what grown-ups do. --- She said don’t tell Daddy—he’d be mad. But I kinda miss the hugs I had.
