z987_Let the Miles Decide

[Verse 1] You left your coffee by the screen door A blue cup chipped along the side The county road was wet from morning And your old truck had gone by five [Chorus] I’ll take the long way past the water tower Past Miller’s field and the feed-store sign If your porch light’s on, I’ll keep on driving If it’s dark, I’ll let the miles decide [Verse 2] The radio found a song from nowhere A loose wire buzzed against the dash I sang the parts I couldn’t remember And laughed when the chorus wouldn’t last [Chorus] I’ll take the long way past the water tower Past Miller’s field and the feed-store sign If your porch light’s on, I’ll keep on driving If it’s dark, I’ll let the miles decide [Bridge] Maybe Sunday brings a little mercy Maybe Monday tells me what is true Either way, I’ll bring that blue cup If I get another morning with you [Chorus] I’ll take the long way past the water tower Past Miller’s field and the feed-store sign If your porch light’s on, I’ll keep on driving If it’s dark, I’ll let the miles decide
