[Verse 1] Smoke curls up From the cedar in my palm Grandmaβs voice In the cracking of the coals You say love is Just a soft and foolish word She says love is How the old ones call us home [Chorus] Spirit of love You remember us When we forget our names When our hearts turn dust Spirit of love You are more than trust Youβre the way we give What was given to us [Verse 2] We pass bread Round the circle Hand to hand Laughter spills On the blankets and the ground You say love hurts Like an arrow through the chest I say love hurts βcause it pulls us back to rest [Chorus] Spirit of love You remember us When we forget our songs When our tongues feel rust Spirit of love You are more than trust Youβre the way we give What was given to us [Bridge] When I fail you Take my pride Lay it down When I blame you Wash my words in the sound Of that old drum Thumping low like a heart We were one flame Before we were apart [Chorus] Spirit of love You remember us When we walk away Chasing smoke and dust Spirit of love Teach these hands to trust Let the way I live Be the gift of us
