[Instrumental. No lead vocal anywhere on this record. The only human voice is a wordless male vowel drone mixed 20 dB under the cellos, treated as an oscillator, never intelligible.] [Side One: Zeitlos — 19 minutes, one uninterrupted piece, no edits between sections] [00:00 stone room noise, air handling, tape spooling up to speed, two seconds of nothing before the first sound 00:40 cello quartet enters with a single bow stroke held 90 seconds, no vibrato, no vibrato, no vibrato 02:10 modular synth fades in underneath at the volume of a whisper, four oscillators detuned against the cellos, beating at 8 Hz 03:30 organ pedal tone at 55 Hz enters, mono, centre, never moves for the rest of the side 05:00 cellos drift a quarter tone flat, nobody corrects it 06:30 first reel wow becomes audible, pitch sags, recovers, sags again 08:00 all cellos drop out completely, modular alone for three full minutes, no one fills the space 11:00 second cello enters in a different key, the two keys never resolve 13:20 tape hiss becomes the loudest element in the mix 14:00 everything converges into one peak, distorted only by tape saturation, no compression anywhere 16:30 elements leave one at a time, string players first, then organ, modular last 18:20 room tone only, air handling, a chair creak nobody removed 18:50 reel runs out, mechanical click, silence] [Side Two: Das Uhrwerk — 18 minutes, same form, colder] [00:00 no fade in, the piece begins mid-sound, as if the tape was already rolling 01:40 sustained organ chord, three notes, no movement, held eleven minutes total 04:00 slow noise sweep, upward, takes four minutes to complete 07:30 a single cello plays a melody, four notes long, repeats once, never again 09:00 modular enters with the same four notes transposed down a fourth, deliberately out of tune against the organ 12:00 the two lines lock into an accidental interval and stay there, unresolved 15:00 everything decays to a hum 17:10 one fluffed bow note left in, clearly audible, kept on purpose] [Side Three: Nebelkammer — 20 minutes, the emptiest of the four] [00:00 tape hiss alone, forty seconds of it, longer than most people can stand 01:00 distant room noise: a car passing the farmhouse, a door somewhere, kept 03:00 low modular drone, so quiet it can be mistaken for rumble 06:00 wordless male vowel enters, one note, held two minutes, mixed far under everything 09:00 the vowel shifts a whole tone, no other element reacts 12:00 cellos return, playing nothing that could be called a theme 15:00 no peak, no climax, the piece never arrives anywhere 18:30 everything fades except the room 19:40 final two seconds of room tone, then the reel stops] [Side Four: Rückkehr — 19 minutes, the loudest, still no drums] [00:00 organ chord, two notes, dissonant by a semitone, held 02:30 modular joins with a rising filter sweep, very slow, no resonance added 05:00 cello quartet enters together for the only time on the record 07:00 full ensemble, all elements at once, no percussion, no pulse, no bar line anywhere 09:30 the ensemble holds one chord for six minutes, changing only by tuning drift 14:00 all instruments begin to slide downward in pitch, unplanned, kept 16:30 total collapse into low frequency rumble 18:00 rumble fades to tape hiss 18:40 hiss fades to room 19:00 room fades to nothing, no fade curve, just the end of the tape] [Production notes for the whole record] [No click track was ever used, no part was quantised, no tempo map exists. Nothing was tuned after the fact, no pitch correction on any sustained tone. Strings were recorded in a stairwell, the reverb on them is the building, not a plugin. Modular parts were single takes, mistakes included, no overdub repair. The mix is mostly mono, stereo only when two sources genuinely happened to sit apart. No master compression, no limiter, peaks are tape saturation, nothing else. If bar 1 exists anywhere, it should not be audible.]
