It’s been years I’ve come to the top of this castle spear And tried yelling into the wind as if someone could hear If this is fairytale land Then it shouldn’t be hard to understand Why can’t there be a little more light in the land But I’m still here I’m not sure of I should share But yesterday I got a note from a pigeon Flew from a distant land And landed with feet rigid I was livid Until I saw a note rolled up Tired to its foot So I took a hold of it And said thank you and gave it a pat on the head You can go now The note brought me to tears But first let me explain what brought me there to sit and fight against the air You see A garrison of evil orcs launched an attack from all sides of the fortified castle that I call home They approached the walls that were polished and without blemish A forest that surrounded it seemed to welcome them in as friends The air didn’t harm them Nothing stood between my enemy and me And the orcs began hacking Launching Catapulting Barraging From all sides At first I was OK and enjoyed the ride Until my queen was hit Rushed off, luckily saved but a near miss Then I was wounded Brought low, never to fight with the strength I had But to be reminded Of the evil orcs launched When I stared in a mirror Scars replaced where stars were in the sky Constellations of Hope were replaced with battle lines The latest full scale attack brought me to full out war with all I had But it wasn’t enough My talking to the air couldn’t save the one I loved The evil army won And so I made a vow to lift the castle draw bridge Cut off access I can’t even escape evil in a fairytale land But when I’m alone after a days fight And if the wind blows just right I can pretend that the air blows like when I was a child Gently Without harm And ontop of this castle platform I’ve sat here I even brought my lute and when played I can escape reality and danger feels far But this pigeon somehow made it close to me Brought me a message And it was addressed to me It said it was From the Wind Red just a few lines but it was enough to make me want to share it to my friends I’ve heard your cries When you asked for things to be nice For blessings from on high When you asked To be saved by my might You may have thought I was the air When the leaves moved that I was there And that when I allowed evil I didn’t care But just as you can’t see the wind You can’t see me But sometimes you can feel me And you think the absence of wind is the absence of my love But if I intervened would that be enough? If I turned the tide every time Stopped all evil Answered every prayer Made it day all of the time Would you still call out to me trust me And grow Would your hope extend beyond your castle walls Beyond yourself Would you become all that I want you to be? Can’t you see how much I love you? I love you more than a leaf And yet it sways in the wind It surrenders to the direction it is blown And when it stops there it is When will you learn to listen To feel again To be a child To know where the wind is Just believe It’s within
