HOSI NO MAKIMONO Sixteenth Release: "[DIGNITY] - The Resolve to Stand Firm Upon Scorching Sands" There are no lyrics for this song. Instead, I invite you to listen closely and share with me what kind of story it is able to paint for you with instruments alone. [DIGNITY] is the second in a series of five tracks leading up to the conclusion of this album. This is definitely one of the heavier tracks I've done, though I'd certainly like to go even heavier in the future. I wonder if the experience of going from something as light and lively as [ERUDITION] to this might be jarring? Most all of my songs are jarring relative to one another though, so I won't concern myself much with that. To hold fast in one's principles is the mark of a truly seasoned and noble warrior. This song seeks to portray the battle of such a warrior, and the manner in which their might and morals stand tall and unbroken no matter the adversity they face. A weapon is to be wielded not to maim and steal, but to safeguard those too gentle, feeble or foolish to defend themselves. Thus, to wield one's body as a weapon, one's soul must be equally bereft of flaws, lest it shatter in the midst of battle. Focus your core, clench your fists, steel your gaze and calm your heart. In doing so, one remains undaunted in the face of both the inhospitable whims of nature and the wicked vices of man. Yet the most dangerous battles of all are not of the flesh, but of the mind. A blade too sharp is liable to cut even the hand that grasps it, and the ones it is sworn to protect. For such a responsibility, only a clear mind and a steady hand is suitable. To fall is unacceptable for one who serves as the last line of defense. So it is said: "Never discard your honor, for the price of victory may burn ever more bitterly than the momentary sting of defeat." I hope that [DIGNITY] was able to convey the unparalleled ability and character of this warrior to you, and bring you some small sliver of enjoyment in the process. Please stay tuned for future releases.
