Things Left Behind
[Narrator, male, warm storyteller] The road grew long behind Catnatic, Where hills began to rise. The wind carried their footsteps Beneath uncertain skies. And everything they passed along Was left without a name— Until the heroes walked through it And called it something changed. [Heroes, male group, confident but softer chant] We leave no trail behind us! Only signs of what will be! Each object is a message From the shape of destiny! [Steve, male, concerned, humble] You dropped your bag again. [Narrator, male, warm storyteller] A bag lay near the roadside Where gravel met the grass. A simple travel satchel Left carelessly at pass. Steve picked it up without a thought And called ahead to them. [Steve, male, concerned, humble] You forgot this. [Heroes, male group, reverent pause → chant response] A CONTAINER OF BEGINNINGS! [Steve, male, concerned, humble] It’s your lunch. [Heroes, male group, stronger chant rhythm] FOOD OF THE FIRST JOURNEY! [Narrator, male, warm storyteller] And so the bag became a myth Before it left the ground. Its simple cloth transformed at once To something more profound. Steve stared a moment longer now At how the world reframed— Not broken, not incorrect… Just constantly renamed. [Steve, male, concerned, humble] You’re doing that thing again. [Hero, male, confident] We are interpreting truth! [Steve, male, concerned, humble] You’re interpreting sandwiches. [Narrator, male, warm storyteller] They moved along the winding road, Where signs began to shift. A broken cart beside a ditch Becomes a “fallen gift.” A rope left hanging from a tree Becomes a “binding vow.” And Steve began collecting things Without questioning how. [Steve, male, concerned, humble] This is yours too. [Heroes, male group, chant rising slowly] THE LOST ARTIFACT RETURNS! [Narrator, male, warm storyteller] Each item gained a heavier tone The moment it was seen. As if the world itself adjusted To what their eyes had been. The more Steve tried to set things right, The more it turned away— Into a myth that walked beside them In daylight and in grey. [Steve, male, concerned, humble] It says “property of Catnatic.” [Heroes, male group, reverent] A SIGN FROM THE DESTINED LAND! [Steve, male, concerned, humble] It’s a label tag. [Narrator, male, warm storyteller] And somewhere in that simple road A pattern starts to grow— That everything they leave behind Becomes something they “know.” And Steve, the only steady voice Still reading what is true— Becomes the keeper of the things They never look into. [Final Chorus, male group, melodic chant] The road collects what’s left behind! The path remembers all! Each dropped and simple, normal thing Becomes a destined call! [Steve, male, concerned, humble] It’s just stuff. [Heroes, male group, rising chant] STUFF OF PROPHECY! [Narrator, male, warm storyteller] And so the journey learns itself, Through misread signs and sound— Where nothing stays what it was meant Once heroes are around. [Steve, male, concerned, humble] I’m starting to think this keeps happening on purpose. [Heroes, male group, fading ahead] FORWARD TO DESTINY! [Steve, male, concerned, humble] …or I’m just tired.
