The Long Way Round

[Verse] Set out bold with a map in hand Thought I’d conquer the hills The land But the trail was sly It turned and spun By noon I’d no clue where I’d begun [Chorus] Oh the long way round The long way round Where the hills rise up and the echoes sound I thought I knew But the path unwound Oh we took the long way round [Verse 2] A brook it laughed A bird did jeer "Lost again Are ye My dear?" The moss it whispered "Turn back Lad" But the sun just grinned "Ain’t it grand?" [Prechorus] My boots cried mercy My legs said no But my stubborn heart said onward go [Chorus] Oh the long way round The long way round Where the trees grow thick and the thistles crown I thought I knew But the path unwound Oh we took the long way round [Bridge] Found a stone that looked like a sheep Climbed a hill that was far too steep Met a goat who seemed to frown “Ye’re lost But welcome to my town”
