(Verse 1) We hitched up the rig and we took to the highway, To walk through the pages of history's roads Pulling into Glenrowan as tourists to learn, Of the days when the guns and the black powder burned. We stood in the shadow, amazed by the view, Of the giant Ned Kelly that guards the avenue. With his rifle in hand and his iron plate chest, The landmark that welcomes the folks from the west. (Chorus) Oh, Glenrowan, Glenrowan, we stepped through your past, Where the legends of outlaws are frozen and cast. From the rows of the shops to the history deep, Where the ghosts of the Kellys eternally sleep. (Verse 2) We wandered the storefronts and looked at the displays, Learning how the gang lived in those wild colonial days. Four desperate riders that lawmen pursued, Ned, Dan, Joe, and Steve in a deadly feud. Then we found a studio and stepped through the door, To dress up in clothes from a century before! I was a lady from old period style, Holding a rifle and wearing a smile. (Chorus) Oh, Glenrowan, Glenrowan, we stepped through your past, Where the legends of outlaws are frozen and cast. From the rows of the shops to the history deep, Where the ghosts of the Kellys eternally sleep. (Bridge) And Les put the armor right over his head, In the heavy iron style of the legendary Ned! With the guns in our hands and the boots on our feet, The photo shoot made our road trip complete. We felt like bushrangers right out of the scrub, Standing right where they stood by the old shanty pub. (Verse 3) They told us the story of the gang's final stand, How the troopers surrounded the small outlaw band. A rainstorm of bullets, a hotel on fire, As the destiny twisted on the telegraph wire. The gang met their end in the smoke and the flame, But Glenrowan forever would echo their name. (Outro) Now our photos are framed and they sit on display, To remind us of Glenrowan and our tourist day. Les in his armor and me with my gun, A trip to the high country, second to none!
