A Glorious Victory - Tara Turner sings Tudor by GM Jon

V5

I sing a song of a victory Unmatched in the annals of our club’s history. When you’ve heard the tale, you will agree It was a glorious win by East Cheadle B A brilliant success to one and all Dan, James, Captain Jim, myself and Paul Against a team that we rarely beat We snatched a win when facing one more defeat Dan the daring was playing board one Against a mighty gifted swordsman At the moment when it seemed he might have gone under His opponent didn’t notice his blunder James had problems on board two He was spoiled for choice for the best thing to do He wrestled with the options on the table Like the spoilt-for-choice Ass in Aesop’s fable. What happened? Unlike the ass, he moved And won, On Board three was our charismatic captain Jim Always prepared to risk life and limb A heroic figure one in one million He couldn’t make headway against a timorous Sicilian. Point shared I took my usual place on board four I nearly lost and would have slunk through the door But a stroke of luck or a magic genie And I escaped unharmed, like my hero Houdini Paul had returned and played on board five Where we needed to win to keep hopes alive After what had become a dodgy ride His opponent made a move that was suicide. We had won Our gallant opponents applauded our exit For a result, that to us as unlikely as Brexit We had won although heavily outgraded! And will cherish the triumph long after memories have faded
