On a hill called Olivet, He stood with hands raised high, His final words, a promise set, "Wait for the Spirit, He will come nigh." The clouds received Him from their sight, As they gazed to heaven’s door, "Why do you stand here, in the light? He'll return, just as before." Ascension to the sky, our Savior's lifted high, Heaven’s gates now open wide, He reigns on high. In the waiting, we believe, His Spirit we receive, In our hearts, His fire, we conceive. In the upper room, with faith they prayed, A rushing wind, tongues of flame displayed, The Holy Spirit filled their hearts, A new beginning, divine arts. They spoke in tongues, the crowd amazed, Each heard the word in their own ways, Peter stood, with courage bold, The prophecy of Joel retold. Ascension to the sky, our Savior's lifted high, Heaven’s gates now open wide, He reigns on high. In the waiting, we believe, His Spirit we receive, In our hearts, His fire, we conceive. “Repent and be baptized,” he cried, “Receive the Spirit, walk beside, This promise is for you, your kin, For all who call on Him within.” Ascension to the sky, our Savior's lifted high, Heaven’s gates now open wide, He reigns on high. In the waiting, we believe, His Spirit we receive, In our hearts, His fire, we conceive. From that day forth, the church was born, In every heart, the Spirit sworn, Ascended Lord, Spirit’s fire, In His love, we reach higher.
