Exhausted and lagging behind, his slow pace dooms the trio to miss the safety of Gideon’s cave before nightfall. Caught in a spiral of self-doubt and guilt, Finn feels like a useless burden to Valeska and Gideon. To make matters worse, a paranoid dread creeps over him as they cross a foggy swamp—he feels watched. When night falls, his fears turn into a brutal reality: a nocturnal predator, sensing the weakest link, launches a terrifying, ambush-attack directly at Finn. But before the beast can tear him apart, Gideon throws his massive body into the path of the claws, taking the hit to shield the boy. In a claustrophobic, frenzied battle, Valeska and Gideon manage to slay the creature, leaving a trembling Finn to realize that the giant he feared just spilled his own blood to save his life. ------------Lyrics-------------- [Intro: A lonely, shivering acoustic guitar picking a slow, melancholic melody] [Verse 1: Weary, breathless vocals, almost whispering] My boots are heavy, filled with lead and clay, The swamp is reaching up to drag me away. Valeska whispers words I try to believe, But every heavy breath is a struggle to heave. Gideon marches on, a mountain in the mist, While my name is just a burden on the bottom of the list. The sun is sinking fast, the shadows getting long, And I’m the broken note in an march-forward song. Behind the dead reeds... through the veil of the white... I feel those hungry eyes. Watching. Waiting for the night. [Pre-Chorus: Tempo gets faster, anxious acoustic strumming, tense violins rising] I stumble in the mire, my lungs are on fire, The safe cave is distant, a forgotten desire. The cold twilight falls, we are trapped in the open gray— Because my useless, trembling legs gave away. [Chorus: Sudden explosion, fast Post-Hardcore/Punk energy, desperate and raw clean-screamed vocals] I am the anchor dragging us down! In this ocean of mud where we all might drown! They don't know, but shoulder the weight of my fear. I’m the prey that brought the predator here! Too slow to run, too weak to stand, A dying spark in a dead man's land! [Verse 2: Heavy, slow, dragging bassline, eerie electronic crackle] The darkness is absolute, the fog is a shroud, My teeth are chattering, my heartbeat too loud. Valeska draws her steel, she knows we are late, Gideon stands still, sniffing the air of our fate. A wet, scraping sound... a twitch in the dark... The scent of old blood, a predator's mark. It knows the weakest link. It knows I am cold. It leaps from the blackness, ancient and bold! [Bridge: Massive, chaotic Metalcore Breakdown. Crushing drums, frantic guitars, screams of terror] The claws in the dark! A shadow of teeth! I close my eyes for the impact beneath— [massive metallic impact, heavy grunt] But the blow never lands! A wall of iron and bone! Gideon throws his body in the way like a stone! He takes the tearing claws, he absorbs the pain, With a roar like thunder in the freezing rain! Valeska’s blade flashes, the silver bell tolls, As they fight the blind horror for our very souls! [Guitar Solo: Chaotic, heavy, panic-driven but melodic, claustrophobic] [Chorus: Post-Hardcore explosion, epic and filled with desperation] I am the anchor dragging us down! In this ocean of mud where we all might drown! They don't know, but shoulder the weight of my fear. I’m the prey that brought the predator here! Too slow to run, too weak to stand, A dying spark in a dead man's land! [Outro: The music instantly drops back to a quiet, shivering acoustic guitar] [Half-whispered, trembling vocals] The beast lies still. The danger is gone. I look through the dark... He bled for me. The monster I feared... Just bled for me. [Slow fade out of the acoustic guitar]
