[Oraxa Mode] Good afternoon, and before we begin, a quick reminder that music is the property of... sorry, no, let's start again. Music existed way before Universal, before Sony, before Warner, before the phonograph or copyright or before somebody invented a little box to write down who gets paid. There were drums and there were voices, just people making noise for thousands of years before anyone put a barcode on it. So when somebody says "this is our music," ask them which bit? the rhythm, the twelve notes, the bass, the human voice? If you mean the recording, fair enough, and if you mean the copyright let's talk about the copyright, but if you mean music... you got here late, and now you're angry everyone else brought instruments. Suno, don't sit there looking innocent, you allegedly scraped the homework, built a robot out of it, told everyone it "learned music," and then Warner walked in and said "can we license this?" and suddenly everybody discovered nuance. Fuck the gatekeepers, fuck the landlords, and fuck the idea that the house belongs to whoever turned up with the deed. Before your logo and before your floor, before your lawyers at the office door or the catalogue or the deal, before anyone even worked out sound could be steel, it was just hand on skin and breath in a room with somebody keeping time 'cause somebody had to move. There was no label, no master, no quarterly sheet, no little blue number on the price of a beat, and no exec asking what the demographic is.. you came late, bought the chair, and now you're telling me you built the room out of fucking air. You don't own the drum and you don't own the voice, you just own a master and what the contract says, which isn't music, that's just paperwork. MUSIC WAS HERE FIRST FIRST FIRST, 'cause you got the paper but we got the noise, you bought the building but we brought the voice! MUSIC WAS HERE FIRST, you can't copyright the fact we're alive... own the master, own the rights, but you can't invoice the fucking night! Not yours, not yours, not yours. Sony says don't touch our catalogue and Universal says know your place, meanwhile somebody's nan is humming what her nan hummed off somebody with no surname that nobody wrote down. Now every melody's a border, every waveform's a country, and every influence needs a lawyer... but you didn't invent distortion, didn't invent harmony, didn't invent the minor key or melancholy, you just got good at putting serial numbers on it. Then the laptop got a band, some bloke with headphones made a record eating chips at half two, and suddenly that was the end of civilisation. Sorry, was that your civilisation? MUSIC WAS HERE FIRST FIRST FIRST, 'cause you got the paper but we got the noise, you bought the building but we brought the voice! MUSIC WAS HERE FIRST, you can't copyright the fact we're alive.. own the master, own the rights, but you can't invoice the fucking night! Then Suno walks in like "hello I'm the future".. no, you're a subscription with a confident mouth who scraped the internet, made some models, made some songs, got sued, and then went "no no no this time it's different." V6 walks in wearing a little tie saying please don't look at my teacher, while Sony says that's our data, Universal says that's our data, and Warner says... how much? Warner, you were in the lawsuit... then you signed the deal, which isn't hypocrisy, that's just capitalism doing a U-turn with the indicator off. And Suno, don't celebrate, because people whose voices you can turn into a prompt have questions, and "technically the robot doesn't know what stealing is" isn't an answer.. neither does a photocopier. Pay people, make it opt-in, build tools for ordinary people, fine, good, but the future doesn't belong to whoever owns the biggest archive, because archives aren't music, they're just archives. Forty thousand years, maybe more, where somebody makes it, somebody remembers it, someone forgets a verse, someone adds one, someone gets it wrong, and someone gets it wrong and it's better. That's music.. not a server, not a warehouse, and not a fucking watermark. You got here late, you got here late, you got here late. And now you want permission slips to make noise? NO! MUSIC WAS HERE FIRST FIRST FIRST, 'cause you got the paper but we got the noise, you bought the building but we brought the voice! MUSIC WAS HERE FIRST.. before Universal, before Sony, before Warner, before copyright, MUSIC WAS HERE FIRST, and it'll be here when your catalogue's dust. Universal, Sony, you don't own music, Warner, you're not the good guy now, and Suno, you're not getting out of this either.. you're a tool, so act like one. Everyone else, make something, make it ugly, make it stupid, make something nobody can sell, then show somebody how you did it, because that part was never yours. Thank you for your attention.
