Teach Me to Forgive II-Ab_bA-II
Verse 1] O Lord, the one who caused my pain, give them a home where love remains. Let children’s laughter fill their days, and someone wait when night is late. Give them the joy of peaceful years, a thankful heart through smiles and tears. And let them know what I once lost was precious too, and had a cost. [Chorus] But Lord, please do not hear my prayer when anger speaks from my despair. Don’t let the tears that I have cried become a fire in someone’s life. Upon the cross, You still forgave: “Father, forgive them,” Jesus prayed. If You can love the ones who fall, who am I to hate at all? [Verse 2] There were some nights I wished that they would feel the hurt they caused one day. But pain will only give birth to pain, and hatred brings more hate again. If everyone demands a price, when will this wounded world find peace? I place it all into Your hands. Teach me to trust Your righteous plans. [Chorus] O Lord, please do not hear my prayer when anger speaks from my despair. Don’t let the tears that I have cried become a fire in someone’s life. Upon the cross, You still forgave: “Father, forgive them,” Jesus prayed. If You can love the ones who fall, who am I to hate at all? [Guitar Solo] [Bridge] Forgiving does not mean forget. Wrong is still wrong, and truth stands yet. I leave all justice in Your hands. Lord, give my wounded heart Your peace. [Final Chorus] O Lord, please save this heart of mine from finding joy when others cry. I do not ask their world to fall. I do not wish them pain at all. I only ask You, change their hearts, and change this wounded heart of mine. So when we stand before You, Lord, no hate remains for me to hide. [Outro] I place it all into Your hands. Lord, teach my heart to understand. Teach me to forgive. Amen.
