Verse 1 Bought a strawberry cone At twenty minutes past three. The woman at the kiosk said, "That's a brave choice in this weather, honestly." The beach was nearly empty, The arcade lights were blue. You wore my old jacket Like you always knew you would. --- Chorus Ice cream in the rain, Melting faster than the day. Ice cream in the rain, Nothing smart to say. Everybody runs for shelter, Everybody knows it's strange. But we stayed there laughing With ice cream in the rain. --- Verse 2 The seagulls looked offended, The sea looked unimpressed. A little boy built a sandcastle Then watched it get depressed. The pier lights flickered softly, The tide forgot the time. You said, "Maybe this is perfect." I said, "Maybe that's a lie." --- Chorus Ice cream in the rain, Cold hands, warmer hearts. Ice cream in the rain, Making terrible decisions in the dark. Everyone was sensible, Everyone looked the same. We were the only idiots Eating ice cream in the rain. --- Instrumental Break (Guitars open up. Bass carries a simple melodic line. Tambourine enters. A distant synth melody echoes like arcade music.) --- Bridge Years from now, If somebody asks me What I remember most... It won't be the places. It won't be the roads. It'll be you saying: "Don't let it drip on your shoes." --- Final Chorus Ice cream in the rain, Still remember how it tasted. Ice cream in the rain, All the sensible things wasted. The car was getting older, The summer running late. Funny how the smallest moments Are the ones you never trade. --- Outro (Rain ambience. Guitar fades.) The ice cream melted. The memory didn't.
