“Stars & Bars” Verse 1 Forty-eight stars were an American flag At the time of my arrival on this earth Family and friends, and the heroes I knew Shared with me what that banner was worth It waved over porches and courthouse lawns And taught us what freedom costs From a young man’s eyes to a grown man’s heart I learned to honor what we lost Chorus From training to battle, that flag still flies A promise stitched in red, white, and blue It stands for unity wherever it’s raised For soldiers and the work they do In hospitals, offices, ships, and planes It shows the world we still care Every time I see Old Glory rise I see the Stars and Bars right there Verse 2 On the uniforms of women and men Who answered when their country called To the final folded flag at a passing time Laid gentle against a chapel wall We recognize the weight it bears And all that it’s meant to be It carries every sacrifice Made so folks like us stay free Chorus From training to battle, that flag still flies A promise stitched in red, white, and blue It stands for unity wherever it’s raised For soldiers and the work they do In hospitals, offices, ships, and planes It shows the world we still care Every time I see Old Glory rise I see the Stars and Bars right there Verse 3 I may not know what our veterans faced The pain that never truly fades The missing limbs, the lifelong scars The price that brave men paid But I’m reminded how important it was Every time that flag unfurls It tells the story of the brave and true Who carried the weight of the world Bridge That cloth don’t brag, it don’t complain It just keeps waving on For every cross, for every name For every fallen son Final Chorus From training to battle, that flag still flies A promise stitched in red, white, and blue It stands for unity wherever it’s raised For soldiers and the work they do When Old Glory’s standing proud and tall Against the evening bars I tip my hat and say a prayer For those Stars… and Bars Outro Yeah, I stand a little straighter when it flies Because freedom’s never free And that flag still speaks every time it waves To men like them… and me
