Rust and Ready

[Verse 1] Melon laughs in the dropship dark Helmet off Got that crooked grin Rust just checks his gear again Says “Kid That’s how we stay breathing” Same face But they ain’t the same One cracks jokes One counts the odds Painted plates Little green on grey Rust-red stripe and a charm from the yard [Chorus] Rust and ready Side by side Two blaster scars One shared spine If we burn Then we burn together From desert heat to vacuum weather Rust and ready Til the stars go blind Different hearts in the same design If the whole sky falls already We stand up Rust and ready [Verse 2] Cold hull hums as the jump light blinks Melon hums some made-up tune Rust marks exits on the map again Says “We improvise if we have to” They’ve seen dust storms break a tank in half Watched a captain fade in red-lit smoke Shared last rations on a busted ramp Traded stories like old worn jokes [Chorus] Rust and ready Side by side Two blaster scars One shared spine If we burn Then we burn together From desert heat to vacuum weather Rust and ready Til the stars go blind Different hearts in the same design If the whole sky falls already We stand up Rust and ready [Bridge] They say we’re copies Stamped from a line But who held you shaking When the hull tore wide? Who dragged you laughing Through the frozen mud? “C’mon Big guy We’re not done yet” (hand on shoulder, brother’s blood) [Chorus] Rust and ready Side by side Two blaster scars One shared spine If we burn Then we burn together From desert heat to vacuum weather Rust and ready Write our names in grime On every crate that we survive If the whole sky falls already We stand up Rust and ready (oh) We stand up Rust and ready
