The Architect Came

V6

[Intro] One flake against the window. Then another. By midnight the road was gone. [Verse 1] The houses kept their porch lights on. The fences held their lines. Cars disappeared beneath the white, one shape at a time. No hammer. No machinery. No footprints in the street. Still something worked outside our walls while we were fast asleep. [Pre-Chorus] It measured every rooftop. Found every open space. And without asking anyone, began to build. [Chorus] The architect came in the night. Raised a city out of white. Built walls where there were roads, bridges where there was air. By morning nothing stood the way we'd left it there. The architect came in the night— and never showed its face. [Verse 2] It climbed the church. It crossed the roofs. It buried every stair. Hung ledges out from nothing. Raised towers in the air. It took the straight lines we had drawn and bent them into waves. Covered every boundary we thought would always stay. [Pre-Chorus] No blueprint on the table. No signature below. Only miles of architecture finished in the snow. [Chorus] The architect came in the night. Raised a city out of white. Built walls where there were roads, bridges where there was air. By morning nothing stood the way we'd left it there. The architect came in the night— and never showed its face. [Bridge] Then— silence. No more against the glass. No movement on the roof. The building stopped. We opened up the door and stood there looking at a place we knew but didn't recognize. [Breakdown] The architect had left by dawn. Every tool and worker gone. A city standing in the cold that no one asked it for. And somewhere underneath it— our city waited to return. [Outro] One drop fell from the roof. Then another. And the architect's whole city began to disappear.
