beneath her cleats

V4.5-ALL

The dirt is caked deep in the tread of her cleats From years and years runnin through wins and defeats She stands in the box while the stadium screams She the anchor of everyones hopes and their dreams She catches the heat and shes taking the hits She carries the weight so that nobody fits The bruises are hidden beneath her thick gear She cleans off the clay and she wipes back her tears The stands mostly see her as steady and tough They think her tough leather is always enough They dont see the shoulder thats heavy and sore When the lights get turned off and she walks through the door She hasnt let the gravel yet alter her heart Though some curve balls have torn her completely apart Sometimes shes a princess who owns the whole field Demanding her crown she refuses to yield Sometimes shes the brat causing chaotic plays Stealing the bases to get her own way Shes soft as the spin on a changeup that drops Then loud as the cheers when the third strike glove pops With sunset orange that's painting her sky She breathes in the music that carries her high The drums are her lifeline the rhythms her guide As the wind in her hair blows the chaos aside So Like the Bengal tiger thats hid in her eyes She stalks through that dirt where her real power lies Shes safe at the plate but shes still on the run Still learning her strength when the innings are done Thru extra game played and the dust thru the air Shes finding herself in the uniform there
