[Short Instrumental Intro] [Verse 1] I woke up with my shoes on Quarter after three There was a chair against the window That didn't bother me The dog was looking upward Like someone called his name I looked where he was looking And that's when something changed [Chorus] The ceiling moved first I saw it, I swear It slid toward the window Then stopped in mid-air You laughed from the doorway Like nothing was there The ceiling moved first The ceiling moved first [Instrumental] [Verse 2] I put the coffee water on You went back to bed A truck went down the avenue The pipes knocked overhead I measured from the bookshelf To the corner by the stairs You said, "What are you doing?" I said, "Nothing." You said, "Yeah." [Chorus] The ceiling moved first I saw it, I swear It slid toward the window Then stopped in mid-air You laughed from the doorway Like nothing was there The ceiling moved first The ceiling moved first [Instrumental Break] [Bridge] Maybe half an inch Maybe less than that Maybe I was tired Maybe that's a fact But the dog won't leave the kitchen And I won't stand beneath That little crack above us That wasn't there last week [Final Chorus] The ceiling moved first Don't tell me it didn't I wasn't even looking Till something made me listen You laughed from the doorway Then looked up at the stairs The ceiling moved first I saw you see it there [Instrumental Outro]
