River of Life
My old man learnt me fly fishin’ In those cold mountain streams, How to read the ripples and runs, How to follow the current’s lead. He tied his own flies and knew how to cast ’em right, Lord, somehow he always got a bite. My old man was a dyin’ breed, But it wasn’t just the fishin’, He also taught me of a Fisherman From the shores of Galilee. Now he’s gone beyond the mountains, Crossed the great divide, He waded through deep waters, Yeah, he’s castin’ on the other side. And someday when the race is run, I’ll join him in the light, In New Jerusalem, We’ll fish the River of Life. Now I’m standing in the current, With a Bible in my hand, The Gospel of the Kingdom Trying to reach my fellow man. I’m still learning from the Master, Still hearing Heaven’s call, Trying to be a fisher of men, The greatest catch of all. And if I leave a faithful wake, When this life has passed me by, Maybe I’ll make both Fathers proud— When I cross Jordan’s tide. Yeah he’s gone beyond the mountains, Crossed the great divide, He waded through deep waters, Yeah, he’s castin’ on the other side. And someday when the race is run, I’ll join him in the light, In New Jerusalem, We’ll fish the River of Life. Roll on River… There is a River That makes glad The city of our God! I’ll meet you (meet you) in the morning By the bright river side! Yeah he’s gone beyond the mountains, Crossed the great divide, He waded through deep waters, Yeah, he’s castin’ on the other side. And someday when the race is run, I’ll join him in the light, In New Jerusalem, We’ll fish the River of Life.
