04 - Last night on sunset road
Dust on the dashboard, gold in the haze, Sixty miles left of the longest of days. Radio hums through the static and sand, A map in my pocket, my hat in my hand. Passed a church with the doors open wide, An old man waving from the other side. I waved back like I'd known him for years, Some strangers feel like home, I swear. Oh, it's the last light on Sunset Road, Burning slow, burning gold. Every mile's a memory, every bend a prayer, I'm not afraid to be going, I just wish you were there. Found a small town where the diner's still lit, Ordered two coffees, out of habit, and sat. The waitress just smiled, didn't say a word, Some kindnesses are the loudest I've heard. Oh, it's the last light on Sunset Road, Burning slow, burning gold. Every mile's a memory, every bend a prayer, I'm not afraid to be going, I just wish you were there. (Ooh... ooh...) If I don't make it to the end of the line, Tell them I was fine, I was fine. I saw the whole sky turn to flame, And I loved every mile just the same. Oh, it's the last light on Sunset Road, Burning slow, burning gold. Every mile's a memory, every bend a prayer, I'm not afraid to be going, I just wish you were there. Burning slow, burning gold...
