Der indische Spielfilm „Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love“ stammt von der Regisseurin Mira Nair und wurde 1996 veröffentlicht [verse1] I danced with you before the prince, like two lotus blossoms in the morning dew. You were destined to become his bride, yet my gaze – gentle, playful, a touch of coquetry and humility – drew his heart, while your proud, longing look reached into emptiness. [verse2] They adorned you as his bride, placing fragrant blossoms in your hair. But you gave me your old clothes, as if they were shadows of your past. I bent down to you and whispered: "Cast-off clothes for a cast-off man." Then I was driven from the palace, and so the wind carried me through foreign streets, until I met the sculptor for the first time. [verse3] I was his model, he freed me from the stone. But I wanted more than freedom – I wanted his heart. The sculptor gave me love, tender as morning dew on marble, yet lamented: "An artist loses himself when he thinks only of love." [verse4] I went to the Kamasutra school, learned the art of seduction. The prince rode past my statue and recognized me in the strange light. When I had completed my training, he found me, took me with him to his palace – as his courtesan. The sculptor came to the school of love, but I was already gone. [verse5] The prince came to me every night, the art of the Kamasutra made him happy. But I despised his opium intoxication. When I saw you again, I comforted you and revealed a trick to you, how to smuggle oneself into a man's heart. [verse6] The sculptor stood before my bed one night, had smuggled himself in. We celebrated our love in secret, but soon I had to submit to the prince's will. It was like an alternation of sun and shadow. [verse7] The sculptor could bear it no longer: "How can you simply do this?" "I am his courtesan, that is how it is now." But I asked the prince for permission to be excused. He came in the night and surprised us. [verse8] The sculptor was sent to the quarry. I pleaded for him with the prince. Even you. But that only made him angrier: "Tomorrow the sculptor will be trampled by an elephant, just as you have trampled my soul." [verse9] I went to the quarry at night, the marble glowed in the full moon. The sculptor was in a bad state. When he saw me, he smiled, I wept. He wiped away my tears: "I will always be with you." [verse10] The next day I stood in the crowd, saw the elephant fall upon my beloved and his soul rise to heaven. I went away through the cheering crowd, with the blessed sky above me and all the courage he had given me, to entrust myself to life.
