[Verse] Joey Whispers was a rookie Fresh out on the road Haulin' twenty tons of shingles Under a heavy load The snow was fallin' sideways The mountain was a beast His trailer started slidin' And his grip on hope released [Prechorus] "Breaker breaker " came the voice Deep as canyon walls "Son You listen close now Or this mountain takes it all" [Chorus] Mountain ghosts were callin' But the old man cut 'em down Said "Ease that trolley gentle Don't let the Jake scream loud" "Bring her straight and steady Boy Don't you let her swing" Joey Whispers found his breath And heard the old man sing [Verse 2] The CB crackled wisdom A lifeline in the storm The seasoned voice was calm While Joey's nerves were torn "Let the trailer follow Son Don’t fight it in the ice Shut that Jake and trust me Just listen to my advice" [Prechorus] The snow was blindin' The curves were tight and cruel But the old man’s words cut through like an iron-sharpened tool [Chorus] Mountain ghosts were callin' But the old man cut 'em down Said "Ease that trolley gentle Don't let the Jake scream loud" "Bring her straight and steady Boy Don’t you let her swing" Joey Whispers found his breath And heard the old man sing
