[Verse 1] Prayers rose low in Mary’s house While iron held a friend Sleep had found his guarded side But God had reached for him Chains fell soft beside his hands Stone gave up its claim An angel led him through the dark And Peter walked away [Turn] Rhoda ran laughing Left him at the door Prayer was still asking While joy crossed the floor [Verse 2] Knuckles sounded at the door Her heart knew what it heard Faith had asked for heaven’s help Then doubted heaven’s word Still she left him standing there And flew back through the hall Laughing with a startled face He’s living after all [Turn] Rhoda ran laughing Left him at the door Prayer was still asking While joy crossed the floor [Break] [Verse 3] Saints can pray with trembling lips And miss what mercy brings Locks may look like final words Till God unfastens things Hush now, listen at your door Hope may knock tonight What you begged through tears and fear May answer in plain sight [Turn] Rhoda ran laughing Left him at the door Prayer was still asking While joy crossed the floor [Bridge] Do not shame the little faith That stumbles when it sees Mercy loves a bolted door And laughter on its knees Some deliverance comes so quick The praying cannot stand Till joy goes running room to room With freedom in her hand [Final] Rhoda ran Peter stood Chains lay cold God was good Rhoda ran Saints looked wide Joy came knocking From outside
