Ain't Gonna Git Better
Second shift, huh? Yeah... you’ll fit in just fine But lemme tell you right now — This place don’t get better, no matter how much time you put in You’re gonna walk in, ready to work Thinkin’ maybe you’ll make a difference or somethin’ But that first shift? Man, they ain’t worth the sweat you’ll spill pickin’ up after ‘em They’ve been here too long to care And the folks that do care? They either quit… or end up like me It don’t matter how hard you go They’ll still hand you a mess and call it “just how it goes” They do nothin’, and still get by You do everything, and they ask why This place don’t want change Just warm bodies and shut mouths You think it’ll get better... But it won’t It never has The union protects ‘em The company fears ‘em So they sit back, feet up, while you bleed on the floor And if you say somethin’? You’re the problem You’re “too fast,” “too loud,” “makin’ ‘em look bad” But I tried slowin’ down I tried bein’ quiet All it did was kill the part of me that used to give a shit Now I show up I shut up I survive It don’t matter how right you are They’ll twist it up and leave you with the scars You work through your breaks They take two And still act like they’ve done more than you This ain’t about the job It’s about learnin’ how to stomach it 'Cause no matter how much you care... This place don’t I used to think I could change shit Thought maybe if I just worked hard enough Someone would notice But they don’t They never will And after a while, you stop wantin’ ‘em to So don’t kill yourself tryin’ to fix what’s broke Don’t expect a thank-you or a damn good note Just keep your head low Do your time And hold onto the pieces they ain't crushed yet in your mind You ain't crazy, kid It’s always been like this And it ain’t gonna get better It just is...
