Then the Book Opened Us

[Title: THEN THE BOOK OPENED US] [Verse 1] You taught me how to look beneath The things that people do. You showed me ego had a root, How fear could dress as truth. Eckhart, lectures, Alchemist— “Angel, understand.” Different books along the road, Different things placed in my hands. But you were never the source. You were the vessel He would use. You helped me recognize the root— The Spirit pulled it loose. [Chorus] YOU TAUGHT ME HOW TO SEE. Then Jesus showed us where to look. You put books into my hands— Then God gave us THE BOOK. Thirty years you studied minds. Thirty years I taught bodies to move. Then two old teachers sat down together— And Jesus taught us truth. [Verse 2] On that long road through Norway We heard somebody sing His Name. I'd never listened to his music, But Jesus changed the frame. You ordered a King James Bible. Thanksgiving brought us home. It waited there to meet you— You opened Revelation. Chapter seventeen. [Drop] And all I heard was— WHORE. [Pause] WHORE?! After all those books— THIS is where we landed? [Verse 3] Then somewhere through those eight years You showed me something new. Not love that only speaks the word— But love that follows through. Love watches. Love stays. Love tells the truth with grace. Then Scripture gave the answer— “We love him, because he first loved us.” There stood the Source above us both. [Chorus] YOU TAUGHT ME HOW TO SEE. Then Jesus showed us where to look. You put books into my hands— Then God gave us THE BOOK. Thirty years you studied minds. Thirty years I taught bodies to move. But all that knowledge bowed its head when Jesus taught us truth. [Verse 4] At first when you were teaching me you'd say— Angel, sit still. You thought if I was moving I wasn't hearing you. Oh, but I heard EVERY WORD. Truth hit my ears and started ringing through my body. My hands would move. My feet would move. Thirty years of dancing weren't gonna disappear because wisdom walked into the room. Then you started watching. And you realized— SHE IS LISTENING. She's listening with her whole body. And you didn't make me become you to learn from you. You let the dancer move while you taught her truth. [Pre-Bridge] And that taught me something else about love. You didn't need my stillness to prove your authority. You saw me. You learned me. You made room for the woman God put beside you. [Bridge] You are the head of this family. But you never needed to make me small. You never had to crush my voice to prove that you could lead at all. You taught— I moved. You spoke— I danced. And somewhere between your words and my feet, truth became something I could feel. Not because you are Christ. But sometimes through the way you love, I see Christ moving through you. [Choir] CHRIST IS OUR HEAD! [Female] My husband leads— [Choir] UNDER CHRIST! [Female] And his dancer? [Choir] LET HER MOVE! [Female Laugh] Oh, I AM! [Final Chorus] YOU TAUGHT ME HOW TO SEE. Jesus taught us where to look. You helped me see the ego— The Spirit took the root. You taught me how to recognize love. Scripture showed me it was true. You studied minds. I studied movement. Then Jesus brought the two together. You taught me how to see people. I taught people how to move. But Jesus— Jesus taught us how to follow. [Outro] You are my husband. The head of this family. And together we lift our eyes to our Head— Christ. Two teachers became students. And we're still learning. Still loving. Still moving. Still following. “We love him, because he first loved us.” Praise God. Jesus is the Lord. AMEN.
