[Verse 1] When I first heard Jeremiah's circus Was coming to town I had a plan I had to put my pride down See me and Jeremiah we go years back him and I He kind of owes me an eye for an eye The story's long but I can make it short if I try [Verse 2] I did the music for the show I pressed play and everything would go Next up tightrope girl she started walking head up and toes curled And to my dismay I pressed the wrong cassette to play Out came all the clowns they hit the post and she came tumbling down [Verse 3] She landed pretty awkward broken bones and knees bent forward now Her head was messed up and she was the best looking girl that circus had Just to make things worse she was Jeremiah's universe His pride his life his love he nearly died when he saw her fall from above [Chorus] And then his fear turned to rage as he dragged me off stage He gave me a hiding from a biblical age To give him his due he spared me my life When she got better I ran off with his wife [Verse 4] Ten years later on here we are and he's facing me in a bar I'm standing trembling my girl waits in the car Then he bursts out with laughter head back and to the rafters now He points at me with mirth you are the single saddest maddest man on this great earth [Verse 5] You ran off with my wife who limps and lisps and causes strife to all So you're much more the fool I spent the last years being nothing but grateful [Chorus] And then my fear turned to rage as I went to engage I gave him a hiding from a biblical age To give me my due I spared him his life Went back to my car and my beautiful wife
