Maddening ft. Hollow Sermon [Blackline Audio]

One for the ceiling, Two for the floor, Three little scratches Make one little door... The wallpaper breathes when the lights go out, It knows all my secrets and spits them about. I named every crack running under my bed, But number thirteen keeps changing its head. The buckle on my shoulder says, “Settle down.” The buckle on my stomach says, “Swallow the sound.” So I bite through my tongue and I count every stain, While the pipes in the wall keep spelling my name. Tick-tock, snip-snap, Something’s crawling through the trap. Knock-knock, grin wide, Who keeps laughing from inside? It’s so maddening! How frightening! How easily one can go crazy. My mind keeps laughing, The walls keep clapping, This torment is everlasting! It’s so maddening! How frightening! The room keeps turning against me. The lights start bending, The floor’s descending— Somebody please come and end me! But don’t untie me yet... I’m almost making sense. There’s a gentleman rat in a porcelain hat, He sits on my chest and we quietly chat. He says I’m the king of a kingdom of thread, With a crown made of buckles stitched into my head. The nurse has six fingers, the doctor has none, They peel off their faces whenever they run. I asked for the time, but the clock started crying, Its hands pointed inward and accused me of lying. Tick-tock, snip-snap, Something’s chewing through the strap. Knock-knock, grin wide, I think I let the outside inside! If I close my eyes, they open. If I hold my breath, they sing. If I stop the little voices, I can hear the big one— RING! No, no, no— That wasn’t the bell. That was the sound Of a thought falling down The bottom of a bottomless well! Pull the straps! Tighter! Kill the lamps! Brighter! Pad the walls! They’re biting! Stop the noise! KEEP WRITING! One for the ceiling! Two for the floor! Three little scratches— NOW I AM THE DOOR! It’s so maddening! How frightening! How beautifully one can go crazy. My mind is dancing, The dead are chanting, This torment is everlasting! It’s so maddening! How frightening! Now everything sounds like laughter. The lights have shattered, It doesn’t matter— I’ll live in the noise ever after! One for the ceiling... Two for the floor... Three little scratches... You shouldn’t have opened the door.
