Inside the great hall, movement was quiet but constant. Preparations for departure had begun, each person moving with restrained tension and silent resolve. Queen Skörta Eldrún stood near the great table, speaking with Helena and Bruno. Beside them, Mikell Skar lingered, as always, half-present, half-elsewhere, as if listening to something no one else could hear. Torstein stood upright, solid... almost too solid. His hand moved across his chest, still unable to believe it. “Not even a scar...” he murmured, more to himself than to anyone else. Helena raised an eyebrow, folding her arms. “If you plan on complaining about being alive, say it now so we can send you back to bed.” Torstein let out a tired smile. “I’ll settle for staying alive a little longer... if no one objects.” A faint chuckle escaped Bruno, while the queen watched the exchange with a relief she no longer tried to hide. Further away, Min worked alongside the other servants, clearing the remnants of the previous night’s feast. Yet her gaze betrayed her. From time to time, she glanced toward Johannes, who remained in the shadows near a pillar. Their eyes met briefly, heavy with unspoken truths. Outside, Jarl Mikal-Finnvard placed a firm hand on the druid Mikki’s shoulder, guiding him aside. “Mikki. We need to talk.” The old man looked up, narrowing his eyes with curiosity. “If this is about me talking too much, I warn you, I have no intention of changing.” The jarl allowed himself a faint smile. “I leave for Trondheim at dawn tomorrow. And I want you to come with me.” Mikki blinked, surprised. “And the wounded here? You plan to let them with their pain until I return?” “That is precisely why you are here today. Heal those who need it. Tomorrow, you travel with us.” The druid studied him for a moment, then burst into laughter. “Very well, but I hope your hospitality includes proper food. I refuse to travel just to eat oat porridge and dried fish.” “Mead is included, if that helps your motivation.” “Ah! Now that is a worthy reason to save lives today!” The jarl nodded, satisfied, and turned away without another word. Back inside the hall, his gaze immediately found Johannes. The exchange that followed was calm... but thick with tension. “Johannes Grøn-Ulv... you wished to remain discreet, and yet here you are, at the center of everything. Curious.” Johannes inclined his head slightly, a faint smile on his lips. “Jarl Arvast. You wished to speak with me?” The jarl crossed his arms. “How is it that no one has ever seen you before... and yet you arrive precisely now?” Johannes gave a slight shrug. “The roads are long... and the stories even longer. A skald once spoke to me of Ragnarök... but you know how they are. They embellish fear to captivate their audience.” The jarl’s gaze hardened. “Spare me the detours. Tell me what you know.” A silence stretched between them. “I have seen the Bifröst collapse. Heimdall blew the Gjallarhorn... and that sound does not lie.” The jarl narrowed his eyes. “And what does that mean?” “That the end is coming. First the Fimbulvetr... a winter no man can survive. Then... what follows.” A breath passed between them. “And you? What role do you play in this?” Johannes met his gaze without flinching. “Perhaps the one who prevents it. Or at least... the one who tries. Yggdrasil is the key. Mikell already knows this.” The jarl tilted his head slightly. “You are not from here... are you?” “No. But I am here now. And I can help.” A heavier silence fell. Then the jarl stepped closer. “One last thing... What is your connection to Min?” Johannes’ smile did not falter. “None. You are mistaken. She likely confuses me with someone else.” Their gazes locked, tense and unmoving. At last, the jarl looked away. “Very well. Prepare yourself. We leave for Trondheim. We have a king to honor... and a kingdom to protect.” Johannes gave a slight nod. “This has been... an instructive exchange, my jarl. I will make myself useful.” A faint smirk was the only reply. But as he walked away, Mikal-Finnvard already knew. In those green eyes... something was hidden. And something was waiting. 💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍 I see it... in the way he stands... too still, too certain Like he knows the storm before it breaks the sky And I... I have led men into death, into winter, into blood But this... this feels older than war His words crawl... not spoken, no... planted Like roots beneath stone... unseen, unbroken Ragnarok... he says it like a memory, not a warning And I... I should laugh... I should... I should not listen Ek em hér... Ek bíð yðr... I have seen liars... men drunk on prophecy But his eyes... they do not beg to be believed They wait... like something patient... something ancient And I... I feel it watching through him Fimbulvetr... the word cuts deeper than steel Not death... no... worse than death... the slow ending What king do I bury if the world freezes first? What oath survives... when gods begin to fall... Green eyes oath... don’t blink... I see through the calm Green eyes oath... no... wait... they see through me Hold the oath... hold, hold it steady in the dark If he speaks truth... then what am I to be Green eyes oath... Já... svá er... Kom til mín... If this is truth... then I stand on a thinning edge Between men... and something far greater than kings And I... I do not trust him... no... not even now But I fear the silence... if I turn away Min watches him... like she knows something I don’t And that... that unsettles me more than his words If the wolf walks among us... smiling... breathing... Then I must walk beside it... or be devoured Green eyes oath... I carry it under my tongue Green eyes oath... it burns when I lie to myself Say his name... no, don’t... don’t give it a shape If he is the storm... I am nothing but flesh Green eyes oath... it cracks through bone, through will Green eyes oath... I feel it... I feel it still Stand or fall... there is no third path left I choose... I choose... but I don’t choose death Green eyes oath Green eyes oath Green eyes oath Green eyes oath... louder now... I can’t drown it Green eyes oath... it’s inside every breath I take Say it true... say it wrong... it won’t matter now If this is fate... then let the world break Green eyes oath... I feel the frost in my chest Green eyes oath... no rest... no goddamn rest Stand with him... or fall beneath what comes I stand... I stand... until I come undone
