#2 "True Enough"  by Half-Meant

V6

[Intro] She said, "Count to four." I counted to four. She said, "Name the feeling." I named it. She smiled. I hated that part. [Verse 1] At the bottom of the bleachers My notebook hit the ground. Three pages came loose. One pencil rolled away. He stepped on the corner Like it wasn't there. I said, "That's not okay." He said, "Relax." So I relaxed. For about four seconds. [Pre-Chorus 1] I remembered the little yellow card. Use a calm voice. Keep your shoulders low. Ask what they meant. I did all three. He laughed. I wrote that down too. [Chorus] I said the right thing At the wrong time. I said it clearly. I said it twice. Everything looked reasonable Under the ceiling fan. My notebook was still broken. That was not on the page. [Verse 2] The next appointment Smelled like chamomile. She asked about my sleep. I said, "Fine." She wrote something down. She said, "You're making progress." I asked, "Toward what?" She smiled. She moved the plant. I watched her do it. I said nothing. [Pre-Chorus 2] That afternoon They blocked the gym door. Someone laughed. Someone said, "Calm down." I remembered to breathe. So I breathed in for four. It worked. For four seconds. Then the floor came up faster Than I expected. [Chorus] I said the right thing At the wrong time. I said it clearly. I said it twice. Everything looked reasonable Under the ceiling fan. Somebody else's shoe Was standing on my hand. I noticed the laces were red. [Bridge] I still have the little card. "Speak your truth." Good advice. Probably. It has a coffee stain Across the word "truth." I tried cleaning it. Made it worse. So I stopped. [Instrumental Break] [Final Chorus] I said the right thing And meant every word. That's the annoying part. I wasn't lying. I wasn't wrong. I just couldn't make The room behave. The ink was still perfect. My hand wasn't. [Outro] Four seconds in. Eight seconds out. I still have the card. I still have the stain. Tomorrow I'll probably count again.
