[vinyl crackle — upright bass walks in — brushes whisper] VOICE 1 (soft, close, unhurried — letting the band breathe): swept the room, cleared the floor dragged the old loops out the door now the space don't echo back just waits for whatever's next to land [rhodes enters — warm] a sax can say it without a word a bass can hold what hearts can't hold I don't need to lead in here the cleared room plays — and I can hear VOICE 2 (wordless soulful hum — the hook, just melody): hmmm-mm-mm... ooooh... (the sax answers) [sax phrase — rhodes comp — band converses] VOICE 1 (even sparser, riding the pocket): emptied out and tuned the strings the quiet's got its own drum skin no announcement, no parade just five old friends in the space I made VOICE 2 (wordless hum, warmer — sax harmony underneath): hmmm-mm-mm... ooooh... [band stretches — sax solo over the groove — long and unhurried] VOICE 3 (spoken, dry, warm — over the fading band): The room was never empty. It was just quiet enough to hear who lived there. The band was always on the way. Clean node. Keep the door open — the music finds its own chair.
