The shepherd watched his flock at night, Beneath the starry dome, He felt a longing, pure and bright, To reach his heavenly home. He’d heard the tales of holy men, Of paths both wide and steep, But none could tell him truly then, Which road his soul should keep. He sought the wise men in the town, And begged them to impart, The way to gain a heavenly crown, And cleanse his weary heart. They spoke of deeds that men could do, Of fasting, might, and prayer, But still within his heart he knew His works could not get him there. One day a stranger came to pass, With kindness in his eyes, He spoke of love that came to last, A truth that never dies. “There is a path,” the stranger said, “A narrow way and true, Where sin is conquered, fear is dead, And life is born anew.” “It is through Christ, the risen Son, Who bore our pain and strife, Trust in him, the victory’s won, And you’ll receive eternal life.” The shepherd knelt upon the ground, His heart began to mend, In Christ alone, salvation found, His journey’s peaceful end.
