Isaiah Cleared His Throat

V6

[Spoken Intro] The Savior said, “Search Isaiah diligently.” So we did. We were hoping Isaiah was talking about somebody else. [Verse 1] We read about the Prince of Peace And underlined the part; The desert blooms, the light appears— It warmed the faithful heart. Then Isaiah turned the page And spoiled our peaceful mood: “Relieve the poor, defend the weak, And change the things you do.” [Chorus] Could Isaiah speak a little smoother? Could he soften up the news? We were hoping for assurance, Not a mirror we must use. We searched his words for signs and dates, For kingdoms old and new; Then Isaiah cleared his throat And said, “I’m talking about you.” [Verse 2] “House to house and field to field, Till no room could be found; Leaders sometimes lead us wrong, While laws can grind folks down.” Then he said the fast God chooses Breaks the yoke and shares the bread; We had merely missed our breakfast— Isaiah shook his head. [Bridge] Nephi said to liken scripture; Jesus said to search it through. That seemed harmless when I thought That “us” meant “them”—not me and you. Lord, I do not need it smoother; I need eyes willing to see. Let the words that trouble Zion Start their healing work in me. [Final Chorus] Let Isaiah speak it plainly; Let him show us what is true: Loose the burden, feed the hungry, Let our worship live in what we do. We searched his words for signs and dates, But found the Savior too; When Isaiah held the mirror up, Christ showed us what to do. [Spoken Outro] Searched Isaiah? Check. Isaiah searched me? Still working on that chapter.
