Last Call Type O
[Spoken word — low, raspy female voice] “Try to remember how it all started. Just one big, blurry haze. I woke up with an insatiable hunger… for blood.” (Verse 1) I stumbled in the alley, my stomach aching, Like a thousand needles under my skin. My teeth felt strange; I traced them with my tongue, And found two sharp points where there’d been none. A man stepped from the shadows, trying to rob me. Some instinct took over—I turned toward him. The world went crimson; the hunger quieted. A few moments later, the pain was gone. [Spoken word — low, raspy female voice] “I looked down and saw I was wearing a long red dress. I remembered going on a date with someone I’d met on an app. I tried to remember more, but the fog came in again.” (Verse 2) I saw a bar across the street. I thought I needed a drink. My usual Jack and Coke might help me think. I hid my teeth and cleaned myself up, Then slipped inside as they were closing up. A biker sat beside me and turned with a smile. I tried to act normal, tried to stay awhile. (Chorus) A vampire’s life has become my bane. What would Kate think? I must be insane. I talk about myself like I’m outside the scene, Watching my life unfold on a movie screen. [Spoken word — low, raspy female voice] “I remember my date now. There was something strange about him— something hypnotic in his eyes. We finished dinner, and he said he’d walk me home. Then the fog came again.” (Verse 3) The full moon shone through the skylight, Silvering the pulse at the biker’s neck. The pain returned; the hunger rose, And I couldn’t stop the pull. When the room came back into focus, The biker lay still beneath the light. The hunger had quieted, but I knew I couldn’t stay there through the night. (Chorus) A vampire’s life has become my bane. What would Kate think? I must be insane. I talk about myself like I’m outside the scene, Watching my life unfold on a movie screen. (Outro) The bartender reached for a bat; I caught it in the air. He stumbled back in terror, and I fled from there. The hunger surged again before I reached the door. I found an untouched wine glass and couldn’t fight it anymore. Last call for Type O.
