As the lights go down all over And darkness takes control People start believing That there’s no hope at all There will be one light still burning And it will be the truth Nothing can extinguish it It shines to guide us through So remember that a light Always shines in the dark And if you cannot see it Remember you are just a spark It started way before Christ walked the earth The lights back then were darker Than what the people deserved With no one to lead them They fell into despair For the leaders through the centuries Ruled the people unfair Greed and lust and tyranny Grew out of control The people died in poverty Worse than any stories told So remember that a light Always shines in the dark And if you cannot see it Remember you are just a spark A light shone dim among them That spread across the land Hope was there to guide them In the shape of a man He became a teacher To the people that he saw Very few could understand The lessons that he taught He was hounded and persecuted For they said he told them lies He wouldn’t bow before them And so he had to die He wouldn’t worship at their feet Nor sit before the throne For he knew there was only one That he would call his own So remember that a light Always shines in the dark And if you cannot see it Remember you are just a spark Those that sat before him Knew the truth of what he said But still they punished him With a crown of thorns on his head Nailed upon a cross With others sent to die He called out to his father “Please forgive them, they know not why” This man among thousands Kept his faith in God above He came to teach the people That the only truth is love So remember that a light Always shines in the dark And if you cannot see it Remember you are just a spark This man among thousands Kept his faith in God above He came to teach the people That the only truth is love So remember that a light Always shines in the dark And if you cannot see it Remember you are just a spark
