Verse 1 Just before the morning sun Mary walked that lonely road Heart still heavy with the grief Of the love she thought she’d lost Stone was standing guard that night Sealed by sorrow and by fear But when the light of dawn arrived The grave was empty there Chorus The stone was rolled away Death had lost its claim The grave could never hold The risen Savior’s name From the darkest Friday night To the breaking Easter day Hope came walking from the tomb When the stone was rolled away Verse 2 Angels shining in the light Spoke the words that changed the day “Why do you seek the living One Among the dead who lay?” Running feet through city streets Hearts awakening like the dawn Every whispered breath of fear Suddenly was gone Chorus The stone was rolled away Death had lost its claim The grave could never hold The risen Savior’s name From the darkest Friday night To the breaking Easter day Hope came walking from the tomb When the stone was rolled away Bridge Sin was broken, chains undone Mercy wrote a brand-new song Love stepped out of that empty grave And proved that life is strong Every heart can rise again Every soul can find the way Because the power of the cross Lives in Easter day Final Chorus The stone was rolled away Death had lost its claim The grave could never hold The risen Savior’s name Now forever hope will sing What the angels came to say Life has conquered death at last When the stone was rolled away Outro So when the night feels long and cold And hope seems far away Remember love walked from the grave On that resurrection day.
